The fifth and Sixth class tours recently went on the viking splash tour in Dublin. This was hugely enjoyable and a very fun and engaging way to learn about the history and origin of the Capital City. The girls had a really lovely day and the weather even co-operated for us with the sunshine coming out for the day!! Many thanks to our HSCL Norma Fitzgerald who organised this trip for the girls.
Happy girls back on dry land returning to school
Visiting Author
The Curragh Girls National School were delighted to welcome the author Michael Smith to our school this week. Michael is the author of Ice Man, a book about the adventures of the famous arctic explorer Tom Crean which the girls have been reading in class. Michael gave a talk and a slide show presentation to the girls with many photos and stories about Tom Crean which had not been included in the book. The girls were captivated with these stories and had many questions for Michael. To tie in with the girls reading about Tom Crean's adventures in the Arctic the school were very lucky to have a visit from Dublin Husky Rescue who kindly brought in 2 of their magnificent dogs for the girls to see. Needless to say all the girls were delighted to be able to get up close to these magnificent animals and were full of questions. Many thanks to Norma Fitzgerald, our HSCL for arranging both of these visits to our school. And a special word of thanks to Michael Smith and Dublin Husky Rescue for giving their time to visit our school. It was a truly educational experience which really captured the girls interest and imagination...who knows...we may have some budding explorers in our midst!!

Irish Water Safety
February 2015 5th & 6th Class participated in a First Aid Course this month. During the course, all the children and their teachers got to practice what they learned on both adult and baby manikins, which was really helpful for getting a feel for how to do CPR properly. Remember CPR is used for any situation where a person stops breathing (heart attack, drowning etc) and, whilst waiting for the medical services to arrive, it can be the difference between life and death. Everyone found the course very interesting and informative. |
